His repertoire roams effortlessly across the musical landscape — from the elegance and intellectual brilliance of Bach to the irresistible melodies of The Beatles\, Musical Theatre favourites and the driving rhythms of Rock ’n’ Roll. Whether delivering delicacy or drama\, Richard brings flair\, personality and a genuine connection with his audience. His impressive career highlights include performances in the West End production of ‘Wicked’\, the annual Prom Praise event at the Royal Albert Hall\, and appearances on BBC Songs of Praise. \nJoining him on stage are two outstanding young professional musicians who are already well known and warmly appreciated by local audiences. Tenor Carl Daniels\, whose specialism lies in musical theatre\, brings a voice of clarity\, warmth and expressive power. Mezzo-soprano and actor-musician Joely Hudson adds colour\, style and soul\, performing alongside her much-loved saxophone. \nAt the heart of the evening\, however\, is a very special star: the piano itself. In 1970\, local music lover Alan Shepherd led a fundraising effort to purchase a beautiful Yamaha baby grand piano as a gift to the Athenæum. Few could have imagined that nearly sixty years later it would still be gracing the stage\, sounding magnificent and delighting audiences. Lovingly cared for and expertly tuned by local specialist Barry Mole\, the piano is ceremoniously brought from its specially constructed store and assembled on stage. \nThis concert raises funds for the Brickhill Trust\, the music aspect of the Sheila Toomey Award\, helping ensure that future generations of young people can continue to learn\, perform and be inspired by this wonderful musical legacy. \nTickets £14\nChildren under 16 £13 \n \n

SUMMARY:King of Fools
DESCRIPTION:“King of Fools” is a new musical premiered last year at the Merlin Theatre\, Frome\, to great acclaim. It has been revived by Kairos Theatre Company for a West Country tour in 2026. \n“King of Fools” is written by former Frome Festival Director\, Martin Dimery (sometimes known as “Willy Wilbury” in the Unravelling Wilburys!)\, in musical collaboration with Helen Turner\, renowned keyboard player with Paul Weller’s Style Council\, and solo work. Martin and Helen appear in the four piece on stage band. \nSet in the court of Henry the Eighth and Anne Boleyn\, Henry’s famous jester\, Will Sommers\, finds himself the butt of the King’s frustration as the royal divorce goes through interminable delays. Will discovers a young barmaid called Jane\, in a Cheapside tavern\, entertaining the regulars. Will thinks Jane could be the ideal companion and female jester for Anne. He presents her at court as “Jane Fool” and she becomes an instant success. He has also secretly fallen in love with her. As Henry’s disillusionment with Anne grows\, so Jane is drawn into Cromwell’s evil plot to be rid of Henry’s young queen. Anne\, though\, sees Jane as the perfect scapegoat\, setting up a gripping finale from the scaffold. \nThe musical score draws a range of styles from rock to vaudeville and Music Hall.
