DESCRIPTION:Warminster Comedy Club returns to the Athenæum this June with another fantastic night of live stand-up\, bringing together a brilliant lineup of established names and rising talent from the UK comedy circuit. \nHeadlining the show is the superb Marcus Brigstocke\, one of the most recognisable and respected comedians in the country. Marcus is known for his intelligent\, satirical comedy and razor-sharp delivery\, with television appearances including Live at the Apollo\, Mock the Week\, Have I Got News For You\, and The Graham Norton Show. A regular voice on BBC Radio 4 and a veteran of the Edinburgh Fringe\, Marcus combines biting wit with playful storytelling\, making him one of the most consistently entertaining performers in British comedy. \nJoining Marcus on the bill is David Arnold\, a hugely likeable stand-up known for his energetic stage presence and brilliantly relatable material. With sharp observations and an effortless connection with audiences\, David has built a strong reputation on the live circuit as a comedian who knows exactly how to get a room laughing. \nHosting the night is Rich Wilson\, winner of the Comics’ Comic 2025 Best MC award\, an honour voted for by fellow comedians. SUMMARY:King of Fools
DESCRIPTION:“King of Fools” is a new musical premiered last year at the Merlin Theatre\, Frome\, to great acclaim. It has been revived by Kairos Theatre Company for a West Country tour in 2026. \n“King of Fools” is written by former Frome Festival Director\, Martin Dimery (sometimes known as “Willy Wilbury” in the Unravelling Wilburys!)\, in musical collaboration with Helen Turner\, renowned keyboard player with Paul Weller’s Style Council\, and solo work. Martin and Helen appear in the four piece on stage band. \nSet in the court of Henry the Eighth and Anne Boleyn\, Henry’s famous jester\, Will Sommers\, finds himself the butt of the King’s frustration as the royal divorce goes through interminable delays. Will discovers a young barmaid called Jane\, in a Cheapside tavern\, entertaining the regulars. Will thinks Jane could be the ideal companion and female jester for Anne. He presents her at court as “Jane Fool” and she becomes an instant success. He has also secretly fallen in love with her. As Henry’s disillusionment with Anne grows\, so Jane is drawn into Cromwell’s evil plot to be rid of Henry’s young queen. Anne\, though\, sees Jane as the perfect scapegoat\, setting up a gripping finale from the scaffold. \nThe musical score draws a range of styles from rock to vaudeville and Music Hall.
